Interac offers two distinct products that casinos may list under the same 'Interac' label. Understanding which one a casino uses changes the steps you follow.
Interac e-Transfer is a messaging-based service built into Canadian online and mobile banking. You send money to an email address or mobile number, and the recipient deposits it into their account. For casino deposits, the casino provides a destination email address and a security question answer. You log into your own bank, create the transfer, and the casino's system auto-deposits it once the answer matches. Interac e-Transfer is available through most Canadian financial institutions that offer personal online banking.
Interac Online is a real-time online debit service. When you choose it at a casino cashier, you are redirected to a secure Interac-hosted page where you select your bank, then authenticate directly with your bank's own login. The payment is authorised in real time and you are returned to the casino. Interac Online is a separate product from e-Transfer and is not offered by every bank; participation depends on your financial institution.
Neither product shares your full banking credentials with the casino. With e-Transfer, the casino receives a transfer notification and the funds. With Interac Online, the casino receives a payment confirmation; your bank login happens on Interac's and your bank's infrastructure, not on the casino's site.
| Feature | Interac e-Transfer | Interac Online |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | You send a transfer from your bank app or online banking to the casino's email address | You are redirected to an Interac-hosted page and log in to your bank in real time |
| Where you authenticate | Your own bank's app or website | Interac-hosted page, then your bank's login |
| Casino sees your credentials? | No | No |
| Bank participation required | Most Canadian banks and credit unions with online banking | Depends on your bank; not universal |
| Common casino label | Interac e-Transfer | Interac Online or Interac Debit |
Interac e-Transfer is available at the majority of Canadian banks, credit unions and caisses populaires that provide personal online or mobile banking. This includes the major chartered banks as well as many smaller institutions. However, participation is set by each financial institution, not by Interac alone, and account-type eligibility (for example, whether a basic or student account includes e-Transfer) also varies.
Interac Online participation is more limited. Not every Canadian bank has enabled it for their customers, and some that previously offered it have changed their support over time.
Before depositing, confirm with your own bank or credit union that your specific account type supports the Interac product the casino uses. Your bank's help centre or the Interac website's list of participating financial institutions are the appropriate places to check. This guide cannot confirm current participation for any individual institution.
The following steps describe the typical cashier flow. Exact labels and screen layouts differ between casinos, but the underlying process is consistent.
Mobile deposits follow the same logic but the authentication step happens differently depending on whether you use Interac e-Transfer or Interac Online, and whether your bank has a dedicated app.
For Interac e-Transfer on mobile: after selecting the method and amount in the casino's mobile site or app, you switch to your bank's mobile app, create the e-Transfer to the casino's email address using the provided security question and answer, and return to the casino. Many bank apps support biometric login, which speeds up this step. The casino's mobile cashier should still be open in your browser when you return.
For Interac Online on mobile: the casino redirects you to an Interac-hosted page within your mobile browser. You select your bank and are redirected to your bank's mobile web login. After authenticating, you confirm the payment and are returned to the casino. Some banks may open their native app instead of the mobile browser for this step, depending on how the redirect is configured.
On mobile, avoid closing the casino browser tab during the redirect. If the session times out before you complete the bank step, the deposit may not be initiated and you would need to start again from the cashier.
Not every online casino connects directly to Interac's network. Many use a third-party payment processor — a company that sits between the casino and the Interac system and handles the technical integration. From your perspective as a depositor, the steps look similar: you still select Interac in the cashier and still authenticate through your bank. The difference is in the background.
When a processor is involved, the destination email address for an e-Transfer may belong to the processor rather than the casino itself. The casino account name shown in your bank's transfer confirmation may be the processor's trading name, not the casino's brand name. This is normal and does not by itself indicate a problem, but it can be surprising if you are checking your bank statement and do not recognise the recipient name.
Processors also set their own rules on top of the casino's rules. A processor may impose its own deposit limits, apply a fee, or have its own verification step. If a deposit is declined or delayed, the issue may lie with the processor rather than your bank or the casino, which can affect who you need to contact to resolve it.
Before depositing, check the casino's payment terms to see whether a processor is named and whether any processor-specific fees or limits apply. If the casino's terms do not make this clear, their support team should be able to confirm it.

Interac casino deposits involve two separate layers of limits: the limits your bank places on Interac e-Transfer sends, and the minimum and maximum deposit amounts the casino or its processor sets.
Your bank's e-Transfer send limit is set by your financial institution and may depend on your account type and history. These limits are not published by Interac centrally; you need to check with your own bank. Some banks allow you to request a higher limit.
The casino sets its own minimum deposit, which is stated in its cashier or payment terms. Minimums vary between sites. The casino may also set a maximum per transaction or per day for Interac specifically.
On fees: Interac e-Transfer fees depend on your bank account plan. Many Canadian chequing accounts include a set number of free e-Transfers per month; others charge per transaction. Check your account's fee schedule. Casinos generally do not charge a fee for Interac deposits, but confirm this in the casino's payment terms before depositing. If a processor is involved, a processing fee is possible.
Currency: if the casino operates in a currency other than CAD, your bank may apply a conversion. Choose a casino that settles in CAD to avoid this.
For a detailed breakdown of limits and fees, see the related guide on Interac casino deposit limits and fees.
Once the casino confirms receipt of your Interac payment, the funds are credited to your casino account balance. If you have claimed a deposit bonus, the bonus amount is typically added separately as a bonus balance, subject to the casino's wagering requirements. Your deposited funds and any bonus funds may be tracked separately in the cashier.
Your bank statement will show the outgoing e-Transfer or debit. The recipient name may be the casino, a processor, or a holding company name depending on how the casino's payment infrastructure is set up. Keep a record of the transaction date and amount in case you need to raise a query.
If the funds do not appear in your casino account within the timeframe the casino states in its payment terms, contact the casino's support team with your bank's transfer confirmation as evidence. Do not send a second transfer before confirming the first has not been received, as duplicate deposits are generally not automatically refunded.
For information on cashing out, see the guide on withdrawing casino winnings with Interac.
You select Interac in the casino cashier, enter an amount, and either send an e-Transfer from your bank to the casino's email address or complete a real-time debit redirect through Interac Online. The casino credits your account once it receives confirmation from the Interac network. Your full banking credentials are never shared with the casino.
Interac e-Transfer is a message-based transfer you initiate from your own bank's app or website. Interac Online is a real-time redirect where you log in to your bank through an Interac-hosted page during checkout. They are separate products; not every bank supports both, and not every casino offers both.
Open the casino cashier, select Interac e-Transfer, note the destination email and security question answer provided, then log in to your bank and send the transfer to that email using the exact security question and answer. Return to the casino and confirm your balance has been updated. Full steps are in the guide above.
Yes. For e-Transfer, switch to your bank's mobile app to send the transfer, then return to the casino's mobile site. For Interac Online, the casino redirects you to an Interac-hosted page within your mobile browser where you authenticate with your bank. Avoid closing the casino tab during the redirect.
Many casinos integrate Interac through a third-party processor rather than directly. The deposit steps look the same to you, but the recipient name on your bank statement may be the processor's name, and the processor may apply its own limits or fees on top of the casino's. Check the casino's payment terms to see if a processor is involved.
